Introduction

Drumming and dancing are important elements in Ghanaian culture. It is through these mediums that historic events are narrated. Traditional drums are the most important musical instrument for the people of Ghana – played on sad and joyous occasions both.
Additionally, drums are played during festivals and state ceremonies even weddings, christenings, and durbars. This musical instrument is deeply integrated into Ghanaian culture.

Tour Overview

Day 1

Arrival in Accra City

Accra is the capital of Ghana and our first destination. You will land at Kotoka International Airport, where an energetic team will greet and drive you the hotel. A warm, traditional welcome waits at the hotel followed by a brief orientation. Dinner will be served and a good night’s rest at the hotel, to melt away tiredness of your travel.
Day 2

Visit to Accra Institute of Cultural Studies

We will head towards the famous drum market in Accra after breakfast. The market showcases different kinds of drums that are played in Ghana. It’s a wonderful experience – being so much close the heart and soul of Ghanaian culture. You will also choose and purchase your own drum for the day’s lessons at the Institute of Cultural Studies. After making the purchase, we will proceed for lunch at a local restaurant and then continue onwards to the institute for the first drumming and dancing lesson.
Day 03

Visit to University of Ghana – Legon

the University of Ghana to avail the second lesson in drumming and dancing. The university campus is well known for housing a great cultural group, filled with talented people. We will head to the Golden Tulip Hotel for a lunch and sample some of the hotel’s most delicious local dishes. The hotel also serves continental fare so you will have choices to make. Drumming and dancing lessons will resume after lunch and end after an hour or two. The day will end at the hotel for dinner, then strolling at the quaint Oxford Street.
Day 04

Visit to Aburi Botanical Gardens

Aburi is located in the southwestern region of Ghana, a town most famous for the beautiful Aburi Botanical Gardens. We will drive to this lovely town from Accra after having breakfast and arrive before lunchtime. You will have another lesson in drumming and dancing amidst the well arranged palm trees and other plants in the gardens. Exploration time is set for after lunch; we will leave our haven and stroll towards the beautiful flora and fauna of the garden. The botanical garden boasts of tropical flora which attracts native species of birds and butterflies. We will drive back to Accra at the end of the day, for dinner and an overnight stay
Day 05

Visit to Accra Cultural Center

After breakfast and head towards the center where more drumming lessons await. You will have a chance to interact with your teachers as well as fellow students during the afternoon break. Some exploration time is reserved after lunchtime, as the center features colorful displays that showcase the culture of Accra in a fantastic manner. The day will end after a scrumptious dinner at the hotel and overnight stay.
Day 06

Visit to Cape Coast Castle

This beautiful castle is located in the Central Region of Ghana, within the boundary of the region’s capital. We will check-in at a hotel at Cape Coast and visit the great and famous Cape Coast Castle upon arrival. The part of the tour is historical in nature as the castle features a lot of dungeons and prison cells that tell the story the story of the transatlantic slave trade. We will proceed towards the castle’s souvenir shop and carry on for lunch. Exploration of the Cape Coast town is next on the list; we will visit local fishing communities as well as famous forts in the area. Rest of the day will be spent interacting with the locals, enjoying the vibrant nightlife and dinner before overnight stay
day 07

Visit to Kakum National Park and Oasis Beach Resort

We will depart from the hotel after having a scrumptious breakfast. Our next destination is Kakum National Park which is famous for having a wooden canopy walkway. The entire adventure filled stroll consists of a 350m of wood and rope Walkway Bridge, which is suspended between 28m and 40m about the jungle floor. The jungle is also famous for housing different species of birds which we’ll view and capture through photos. The day continues onwards to Oasis Beach Resort where you will have your fifth drumming lessons, right after lunch at Hans Cottage. The exciting day will end with dinner and live music at the Kokodo Guest House.
Day 08

Visit to Anomabo Beach Resort

We will take a break from drumming lessons on this day and visit the magnificent Anomabo Beach Resort. The entire day will be spent relaxing and enjoying the many facilities of the resort! You can even practice what you have learnt so far on your own and provide entertainment to other guests. The evening will be spent at a nightclub or Kokodo Guest House, followed by drive back to the hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 09

Workshop at the Oasis Guest House

On the ninth day of the tour we will check out of the hotel after breakfast. Oasis Guest House is only a few kilometers away from the hotel, where we will arrive for a workshop on drumming and dancing. This lesson will be followed by a delicious lunch at the resort. You can spend the rest of the day in any way – either practicing alone or engaging in fun activities at the resort. Dinner will be served at the hotel as well as overnight stay.
Day 10

Visit to Manhyia Palace in Kumasi

We will depart very early after breakfast from Cape Coast, travel through many towns and villages before reaching Kumasi. Once arriving at the place, we will visit the palace of Ashantehene; Manhyia Palace. This is a great opportunity to know more about the king of Ashantis as well as cultural and history of the kingdom. We will explore further into the city to view the great monument erected in honor of the Ashanti people. The walk will continue towards Prempeh II museum at the National Cultural Center, where a lesson will be provided on Ashantis culture through visual imagery. The long day will end at Rees hotel where we will have dinner and stay the night.
Day 11

Ashanti Craft Village Tour

The Ashanti Kingdom has a lot to offer in terms of education and enlightenment. We will dive deep into this knowledge while visiting some Kumasi villages known for their high skills in craftsmanship. The skilled craftsmen create traditional crafts the region is famously known for… items that we don’t see in the modern world of craft making. The quaint village of Asuofia is best known for bead-making, onwards to Bonwire and Adanwomasa to see Kente weavers at work. We will also witness the making of the beautiful Adrinkra cloths and learn the secrets behind this skill. Next in the day’s program is lunch at one of the area’s authentic chop bars where you can sample a variety of local and delicious foods. After lunch, we will head towards a traditional fetish shrine as well as towards Kumasi fort. We will come back to the centre and have another drumming and dancing lesson, and then explore Kejetia market which is the largest in West Africa. Dinner waits at Rees hotel and a relaxing overnight stay.
Day 12

Departure to Accra and Farewell

Preparations will be made for departure to Accra after breakfast and check-out at the hotel. Upon arriving to the capital, you can spend some time packing and doing last minute shopping, You will head to the airport for departure and flight boarding – keeping Ghana in your heart.
