This expedition will lay bare how Ghana got this precious bean, the maiden cocoa farm which was established by the man who brought cocoa to Ghana, the processes the beans passes to get the quality bean and institution that manages cocoa in Ghana.

0800 HOURS TO 0930 HOURS
Early Departure
We will pick you up in the morning and drive you through the meandering Aburi mountain to Mampong. At the peak of this magnificent mountain, we will enjoy a nice view of Accra. There will be a stop for pictures.

0930 HOURS TO 1040 HOURS
Tetteh Quarshie Cocoa Farm
Arrive at the Tetteh Quarshie Cocoa Farm. This farm is the first cocoa farm in Ghana and the birthplace of Ghana’s burgeoning cocoa industry. The original seedlings were brought from Fernando Po Island just off the coast of Equatorial Guinea by Tetteh Quarshie himself in 1879. There will be a site guide to take us around the cocoa plantation. We shall visit some of the original surviving cocoa trees and we’ll be educated on how cocoa seeds came to be in Ghana, as well as the life of the farmer, Tetteh Quarshie. As a special treat, you’ll also have the opportunity to taste some fresh cocoa seeds.

Lunch
After that rich history from a site guide, we will proceed to Koforidua, the capital of Eastern region. On reaching Koforidua, a delicious lunch awaits us at Linda D’or’s fine dining restaurant, well known for their local recipes.

1340 HOURS TO 1600 HOURS
Tafo Cocoa Research Institute
After our delicious lunch, we depart to Tafo. Arrive at Tafo Cocoa Research Institute and walk straight to the reception where we will be warmly welcomed and given about 20 minutes history and briefing about the institute. After the briefing, one of the researchers will take us on a walking tour through the institute to see the fermentation department, diseases control department and some of the products made from cocoa including chocolates, soaps, body cream, and cocoa powders. He/she will also take us through the process of making some of these products. After this awe-inspiring experience, there will be some time to purchase some products example chocolates, soaps among others and depart to Accra.
